01/05/2005 Appointed as a parish priest at the Church of the Holy Trinity in the Habibiya area.
01/08/2009 Appointed as a parish priest at the Sacred Heart Church in the Karada area, Hay El-Wehda.
01/05/2006 Appointed as the director of the educational institute in Baghdad.
01/08/2009 Sent to complete his studies at the Oriental Institute of the Jesuit Fathers in Rome, Italy.
15/10/2012 Obtained a Master’s degree in Canon Law from the Oriental Institute of the Jesuit Fathers in Rome and returned to pastoral service in Baghdad.
01/04/2013 Appointed as a priest at the Sacred Heart Church and director of the educational institute in Baghdad and lecturer in Canon Law at the Babylonian Pontifical College of Philosophy and Theology in Iraq. He also held the position of judge at the Unified Catholic Ecclesiastical Court and later became the head of the Unified Catholic Ecclesiastical Court of Appeal.

Served as an assistant to Fr. Yuhanna Issa at the Church of the Virgin Mary from 1992 to 1993
Served as a pastor at St. Joseph’s Church in the neighborhoods of Al-Zuhur, Al-Muharibeen, and Al-Tahrir from 1993 to 1998
Served at the Victory Monastery in the Arab Quarter of Mosul for several years
Served as a pastor at the Church of the Holy Spirit from 1998 to 2002
Also served as an assistant secretary to the bishop at the Mosul diocese and as an assistant for the service of St. Paul’s Church and pastoral matters for Miskinta until 2003
Member of the Educational Committee for Engaged Couples and then became the president since 2006
Spiritual advisor for the prison ministry in Mosul from 1997 to 2005
Served as an assistant priest at St. George’s Church in Melbourne from 2017 to 2022
President of the Family Committee for Engaged Couples since 2019 until now
Currently serves as an assistant priest at the Church of Our Lady Guardian of Plants, in Melbourne since 2022
Current Responsibilities:
– Head of the Family Committee in the Diocese of St. Thomas the Apostle in Australia and New Zealand
– Spiritual advisor for the Sacred Heart Brotherhood
– Spiritual advisor for prayer groups held in homes in Melbourne at the request of the faithful families

حصل على درجة البكالوريوس في اللاهوت وتخصص في الدراسات الكتابية من كلية اللاهوت الكاثوليكية في ملبورن، أستراليا
الأب ماهر متزوج من السيدة رشا صفار وأنجبا أربعة أطفال، منهم ولدان ياشوا وجاشوا ولكنهم الان مع يسوع، ومن ثم رزق ببنتين هن مريم وروزاري
عمل الاب ماهر كمرشد روحي في السجن، حيث عمل مع الأفراد الذين يعانون من: الآثار الجسدية والعقلية المؤلمة، وعمل أيضًا كمساعد رعوي، وكانت واجباته العمل مع الشباب في الكنيسة
كانت مهام الأب ماهر هي إنشاء مجموعة شبابية والعمل مع الشباب في كنيسة مريم العذراء حافظة الزروع فكانت ولادة اخويات للشبيبة عدة واللغة الإنكليزية والكلدانية

He earned a bachelor’s degree in theology with a specialisation in biblical studies from the Catholic Theological College in Melbourne, Australia.
Fr. Mahir is married to Mrs. Rasha Saffar, and they have four children, including two sons, Yashua and Joshua, who are now with Jesus, as well as two daughters, Maryam and Rosary.
Fr. Mahir worked as a spiritual guide in prison, where he assisted individuals suffering from painful physical and mental effects. He also served as a pastoral assistant, with responsibilities that included working with the youth in the church.
Fr. Mahir’s tasks included establishing a youth group and engaging with young people at the Church of Our Lady Guardian of Plants, which led to the formation of several youth fellowships in both English and Chaldean.
He was ordained as a reader deacon on 01/16/2012, followed by his ordination as a transitional deacon on 05/09/2021. He was then ordained as an evangelist deacon on 07/22/2022, and on 07/14/2023, his dream of priestly ordination was fulfilled.
